First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a socialist.
Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a trade unionist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.
– Martin Niemöller
It’s cliche, it’s overused, but it’s still never been more true today than it was when it was originally written during post World War II Germany. While Niemöller was a supporter of Hitler during his rise to power, his eyes were opened as he saw the purging of individual group after individual group. So, while we’ve never had a president in America that could be truthfully compared to Hitler (No, Donald Trump was not “literally Hitler”) — we have an establishment that reeks of ostracizing groups of people who don’t conform to the will of the “State.”
There are people running around this country right now that would like nothing more than to round up the “Trump voting, white supremacist, racist, homophobic, TERF, bigots (regardless of their race)” and throw them all in “re-education” camps for wrongthink. Does that sentence sound sensationalist, emotional, and illogical at its core when you read it? That’s because it is. It’s because the Establishment preys on the emotions of the country rather than being straight forward and logical. It’s why people think Trump is personally and solely responsible for the death of 400,000 Americans for a global pandemic. It’s why if you didn’t “blackout” your Instagram or Facebook or Twitter profile picture for “BLM,” because you may not agree with their core principles, you’re a racist (let’s not even get into the fact corporations are just virtue signaling for money). It’s why if you’re a conservative beauty influencer your contract gets dropped with Sephora after you’ve already fulfilled your commitment. Toying with human emotions is what’s driving this massive spike in the culture of America and why if you’re not careful they’ll come for you next.
The Leftists in America like to claim “cancel culture” isn’t real. That all these major companies are doing is utilizing “capitalism” to oust the racists, the bigots, and the homophobes. It’s why you’re supposed to “bake the cake” and not inject your personal beliefs into your business (the cake guy ultimately won on a Supreme Court level — but strangely enough the LGBT+ community keeps going to him for future events). We are living in a time where if you merely voice an opinion that’s contrary to the mainstream you may lose your job, lose your banking privileges, and even lose out on posting to your own social media (see Trump on Twitter and everything else involving him recently). Companies caving to the pressure of the people who claim they’ve been “hurt” by words (context and intent are now irrelevant) is absolutely asinine. Why have we decided as a country that all opinions must be the same opinions otherwise you’re the scum of the earth that must be eradicated? I mean if you really do enjoy an echo chamber might I suggest finding a cell with some padded walls and screaming into the void there.
I’ve discussed the problem with the “private business” point of view from the social media front previously, but it’s begun to bleed over into peoples livelihoods. Take for example Amanda Ensing, a beauty influencer, who also happened to be a Trump supporter. She lost her contract with the company Sephora after she posted to her Instagram about her support for former President Trump and Twitter commentary about the Capitol Hill Riots on Jan. 6th. Per her contract with Sephora the only way they could legally terminate her contract was for “hate speech or violence,” neither of which she committed on her profiles (since her Twitter/IG/FB are still up). No, rather than having a conversation with a woman, which they signed a legally binding contract with, they caved to the “woke mob” and dropped her, saying her views “didn’t align with Sephora’s view on inclusivity.” Nothing screams “inclusion” more than everyone thinking, speaking, and reciting the same CNN talking points.
Ensing’s contract violation isn’t even the craziest thing we’ve seen in America to date. Commander-in-Wokeness Ibram X. Kendi is on the chopping block (for people actually paying attention) for “anti-trans” rhetoric and how he would be horrified if his daughter was transgendered. Yes, the man who is paid thousands to tell white people they’re to blame for everything wrong in the world and there is no escaping your racism, doesn’t believe that his daughter could ever be a boy. His issues with white children being happy being white aside — he’s committed a cardinal sin of the Left, he’s expressed that he doesn’t fall in line with that narrative that the Establishment is espousing on children. Kendi is saying that your gender is your gender and you should be happy and proud of it. Now, if I was a rational person, I’d try to put what he was saying in context and understand the intent of his message. Chances are it was just him once again blaming all white people and other racist drivel, but as the NYT previously told us, intent doesn’t matter, so his actual meaning is pointless and his “transphobia” is glaring. Will he be cancelled? Doubtful, he is still a Leftist after all, and white guilt keeps funding his racism so I won’t hold my breath.
To bring us full circle, I think the funniest example of this cancel culture hypocrisy is the firing of Gina Carano from Disney’s “The Mandalorian” due to an “anti-Semitic” social media post. Thankfully, the Internet is forever and the Left are masters of double standards, so while the Trump is “literally Hitler” and his 74 millions voters were “on the side of the Klan” commentary got no one fired from major media outlets, a comparison to Nazi Germany and the 2021 political environment is suddenly worth losing your job over. But let’s not let Disney off the hook, they were merely looking for a reason to fire Carano for voicing a different opinion than Hollywood and her lack of Twitter pronouns. The reason this is so laughable is because Disney clearly has some very vague standards when it comes to what they’ll “tolerate” from their employees. Carano’s words are fireable, but suggesting sending #MAGAkids headfirst into a wood chipper (visual and all) is a-ok. And, not surprisingly, Disney will also let their directors tweet about child rape and pedophilia (something that got Gunn appropriately fired), and then REHIRED after a mediocre apology. Yes, the same Disney that brought you, “The Lion King,” the racist crows of “Dumbo,” and “The Princess and the Frog” doesn’t like conservative actors, but is okay with child rape and murder. 👍🏼
But none of this should be surprising to anyone. As long as you’re part of the “woke” cult you can apologize for the most egregious things or merely say “I didn’t say that” and they’ll let you back into their circle like nothing happened. So for now, the question is, will you speak out for others before no one is left to speak out for you or will you let them pick people off you merely don’t agree with just so you can hear the sound of your own voice?
